Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Reduction

Why Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Reduction
As a Small Island Developing State, Mauritius and its industries, are especially vulnerable to climate change impacts like extreme weather and rising sea levels, which in turn disrupt supply chains and damage infrastructure. To build resilience and ensure sustainable growth, PBL is prioritizing climate change mitigation actions. Our efforts begin with reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Progress on double materiality & carbon footprint action plans
- Carbon Footprint Assessment done for all PBL sites & Edena
- FY 23/24: 117 225 tCO2e (Mauritius, Rodrigues & Edena)
- Scope 1 – 12%
- Scope 2 – 17%
- Scope 3 – 71%
- FY 23/24: 117 225 tCO2e (Mauritius, Rodrigues & Edena)
- e-bus sponsorship provided to Azuri - Sep-24
- Afforestation Campaign - Water sponsorship to AnAngel and 20+ employee participation for planting of 200 Trees at Petrin
- Invested in 128 New Vehicles – 29 Hybrids & 9 Electric
- SM AirSeT™ installed - uses air insulation instead of potent GHG, thereby reducing our carbon footprint by 15,725 kg of CO2
- Double Materiality Assessment conducted through the Embedding Project with 5 actionable areas defined: protecting & restoring water sources, tackling climate change, engaging in building healthy communities, promoting a circular economy and enhancing value chain activities.
